A Truly Rare Achievement: Curraghmore’s Single Estate Whiskey Enters a New Chapter
At Curraghmore, we’ve always said that great whiskey begins long before the barrel. It starts with the soil, the seed, and a vision rooted in place. Today, we’re proud to share a significant milestone in our journey to craft whiskey of rare provenance and integrity.
From Seed to Spirit to Cask, All Rooted in Curraghmore
Most whiskeys speak of provenance. Few can claim what we now have: a spirit made exclusively from oats and barley grown on our estate, now laid down to mature in casks coopered from oak trees that once stood on that same land.
That’s right, every grain, every drop, every stave tells the story of Curraghmore. It’s a rare feat, and one we believe is unmatched in its depth and authenticity.
Irish Oak, Naturally Fallen and Carefully Selected
The oak used for these casks comes from trees over 200 years old, harvested from within Curraghmore’s ancient native broadleaf woodland. Many had fallen during storms over recent years. A small number were selectively felled to encourage biodiversity and new growth, as part of our ongoing woodland management and conservation efforts.
These trees, steeped in history and rooted in Irish soil, were then shipped to Spain to be expertly seasoned and crafted into casks by master coopers.
Watch the Moment: Curraghmore Irish Oak, Branded at Source
As you can see in the video, our estate-grown casks have now been officially branded with the mark “ Irish Oak.” It’s a proud moment that reflects not only craftsmanship, but also deep respect for the land.
Irish oak is exceptionally rare in whiskey making. Prized for its tight grain and subtle spice, it imparts a unique structure and character to the spirit within, deepening complexity with every passing season.
You can watch the branding moment in our latest video below, a proud milestone in a process guided by heritage, patience, and place.
Now Maturing. Now History in the Making.
Some of these freshly branded casks are about to be filled with our estate pot still spirit. From that point forward, they’ll quietly mature, slowly absorbing the soul of the oak that once grew just a few fields away from the grain.
Select casks will undergo further seasoning, potentially with Oloroso sherry or other fine wines, to develop richer, more nuanced flavour profiles over time.
This is whiskey making in its purest, boldest form. Slow, intentional, and deeply connected to the land.
Legacy in Every Barrel
As the liquid begins its long maturation journey, we are reminded that true craft takes time. Each cask laid down today is a step toward a new chapter in Irish whiskey, one that honours the land, respects tradition, and dares to do things differently.
