Spring Barley Update: Flourishing Fields at Curraghmore Whiskey

As we step into early summer, we’re delighted to share a thriving update from Curraghmore Whiskey’s barley fields. Here you can see the Mayfield, carefully planted with Amity and Gangway variety barley earlier this spring. May has delivered exceptional weather, creating ideal growing conditions that our barley clearly adores!

The past month saw remarkable warmth and sunshine, with Met Éireann reporting daily temperatures frequently surpassing 20°C. This abundance of sunlight and gentle warmth, paired with just the right balance of rainfall, has accelerated the healthy growth of our spring barley crops, ensuring they’re lush and vibrant.

Walking through our barley fields, the signs of progress are unmistakable and exciting. The elegant awns—the graceful whiskers extending from the barley heads—are beginning to peek out prominently, gently waving in the summer breeze. At the very tips of these developing stalks, the “paintbrush” stage is visible, marking the early onset of ripening and signalling the approaching harvest.

Each barley stalk promises quality, flavour, and character, which form the heart of every bottle of Curraghmore Whiskey. We’re looking forward to sharing more updates as we journey toward a fruitful harvest, nurturing every grain to perfection.

Stay tuned and here’s hoping for a great harvest!

Sláinte!
