Why Single Estate is
a true embodiement of heritage

Every drop of Curraghmore Whiskey is a journey that begins and ends on our historic 2,500-acre family estate in County Waterford, Ireland's oldest continuously inhabited estate. Here, cradled by the majestic Comeragh Mountains and refreshed by Atlantic breezes, we cultivate every single grain of barley and oats that goes into our whiskey. Our Single Estate whiskey is not only traceable, it is imbued with a clear, undeniable sense of place - our unique terroir in every sip.

Our fertile landscape, where the Comeragh Mountains meet the winding River Clodagh, creates an ideal microclimate for growing exceptional malting barley and oats. The mineral-rich soil, temperate Atlantic weather, and centuries of sustainable farming practices all contribute to the extraordinary quality of our grains. We carefully select barley varieties like Propino, Amity, and Gangway, alongside heritage oats that impart a signature creamy texture to our whiskey.

The Process
Single Estate Production
1
Honouring 800 years of
agricultural heritage

Rooted in terroir, cultivated exclusively on Curraghmore Estate, south-east Ireland. This region is considered by industry experts to offer the very best conditions for growing malting barley on the planet.

2
Malting and drying
our barley and oats

Our barley and oats are shipped from our estate in Co. Waterford to Athgarret Malt, situated in Co. Kildare. Here, they are dried and a portion malted by Gareth Headon.

3
Triple
distillation

Our whiskey is distilled in the Great Northern Distillery, our third party partner. We work closely with the team in GND, taking meticulous care to create the perfect pot still mash bills using only our own barley and oats grown on the Curraghmore Estate.

4
Maturation
and finish

Matured in ex-Oloroso European Oak, Virgin French Oak, and ex-Bourbon American Oak casks for distinctive vibrancy. In time, we plan to evolve production, finishing our whiskey in casks made solely from ancient Irish oak from the estate woodlands.

Head of Tillage

At Curraghmore, exceptional whiskey begins with exceptional grain, and that excellence stems from the expertise of Ned Morrissey, our Head of Tillage. As a master cereal farmer with years of intimate knowledge of our land, Ned understands every field, every soil variation, and every nuance that defines Curraghmore's terroir. His deep connection to this estate runs through decades of experience, reading the land like few can.

Ned consistently delivers optimal quality and yield from our soil through meticulous crop management, precise timing, and an intuitive understanding of what our fields need to flourish. This agricultural mastery directly translates to superior grain quality, which becomes the foundation of our liquid's character. Ned's expertise ensures that every kernel harvested carries the full potential of Curraghmore's unique environment, making him instrumental in crafting our single estate whiskey of uncompromising quality and distinctive terroir-driven flavour.

Terroir integration

Naturally Felled oaks

At Curraghmore, we're advancing something no other Irish whiskey has accomplished to date - complete terroir integration. Our naturally felled and carefully selected oaks, some over 200 years old, are transformed by master Spanish coopers into truly unique Curraghmore casks that will fundamentally shape the character of our liquid.

With each numbered tree becoming a unique maturation vessel, we anticipate remarkable variations in flavour profiles between different oaks from the very same estate. The tight grain and distinctive spice characteristics of Irish oak interact with our estate-grown grain, creating depth and complexity that reflects our specific woodland terroir.

Curraghmore oak casks represent the ultimate expression of single estate whiskey making – a pure reflection of our unique environment captured in every drop, through both the barley that grew here and the ancient oaks that stood sentinel over these fields for centuries.
